The Campaign for the Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center Campus
The Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center Campus is an exciting new vision for underserved neighborhoods of Boston, Massachusetts. Co-locating Health and Housing programs within a single campus will improve the wellbeing of the community. Taking a holistic approach that incorporates access to nature and public transportation will impact the social determinants of health. The Campus will offer economic development opportunities crucial to a thriving community.
The project will spur job creation, while supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs by keeping capital in the local community. Strong connections to foster social cohesion, will combat the epidemic of loneliness and improve health outcomes and longevity.
The new 45,000 square foot purpose-built neighborhood health center will serve as the catalyst for addressing health. Built behind the existing healthcare facility on Harvard Street’s current parking lot and two adjacent parcels of city-owned land, the building will feature passive house design to mitigate climate impact while maximizing access to quality care.
At the site of the current health center and an abandoned parcel of land Harvard Street has acquired, the project introduces affordable housing along Blue Hill Avenue to increase housing stability for lower-income families. Affordable housing will be co-located with ground floor community health care to foster resilient communities.
